Durrus Road

Durrus Road, west Co.Cork, was a small wayside station on the former Cork Bandon & South Coast Railway's main line from Cork to Bantry. Durrus ROad was one of two small stations located between Drimoleague and Bantry, and was opened by the Illen Valley Railway in July 1881, the company been latterly worked by the CBSCR. The station had just one short platform and a corrugated iron waiting room, with an adjacent gate keepers house. The station, along with the West Cork lines were closed by CIE in March 1961. Today the platform and waiting room on the east side of the level crossing are gone, but the gate keepers house remains. There was also once a siding serving a small goods shed on the west side of the level crossing, but it has been demolished. The station was located on a country lane off the R586 road to Bantry.

This is the site of Durrus Rd Station, looking east towards Cork from the former level crossing. There was once a single platform and waiting shelter located here, now long since gone. This is the west side of Durrus Rd level crossing, where there was a siding serving a goods store on the down side of the line. The gate posts and gate are original Cork Bandon & South Coast Railway features. Out of view to the right behind the trees is the gate keepers house. The gate keepers house at Durrus Rd, now a private residence. The station was opened in July 1889, and was finally closed with the line in March 1961. The trackbed on the west side of the level crossing at Durrus Rd, looking towards Bantry. The siding and goods store were once sited to the left of the photo.
This is the small country lane on which Durrus Rd Station was located. The former crossing gate can be seen on the left where the railway once crossed the road. It was located off the main R586 road to Bantry.
